Temple Lessons

We LOVE being missionaries and love the opportunity to serve others.  Here are some things we experienced this week:

-        We went on an eight-mile hike to the other side of our lake on P-day.  Beautiful place!
-        We attended our congregation’s annual 4th of July Pancake Feed and Flag Ceremony on the 4th of July.
-        We met our new Mission President, President Meservy.
-        We were able to attend the Sacramento Temple.

Here is an excerpt regarding one of our spiritual experiences from Sister Stewart-Longhurst’s Journal:

“Next we stopped in at a Sister's house. She was there with her adorable son, an old dog and a cat who became very attached to me and was very picky about how I petted her.  She grew up in a big Mormon family in Salt Lake, but quit going to church in her youth, and just started attending again a few months ago.

We taught her the Temple Challenge lesson amidst an abundance of the Holy Spirit, and with tears streaming down her face she accepted and made a goal to go to temple but warned that it may take her some time to walk through the repenting she still needs to do first.  We assured her that God is not punitive and wants to forgive her, that he loves her like her own father.  (Which brought more tears.  The prompting to share that truth obviously came from the spirit.) We also promised her that receiving her temple blessings will not only bless her significantly, but her sweet young son is the one who will most be impacted.  It will change his life forever!  The spirit testified the truth of that to her and to us.  God knows her heart and helped us know what she needs to hear so that she accepted the invitation to more fully follow Jesus Christ.  We are so happy to see and feel her desire to repent, which is really no more than turning her focus more toward Jesus Christ.  She also told us that our timing of the lesson was exactly right on as she was at a crossroads in her life.  This goal will help her choose the right path and she really needed that right now.

It is a huge honor to be instruments in God’s hands in helping his children find their way to Him.  I keep pinching myself to make sure I’m not dreaming this experience.  The work isn’t always easy, but some of these moments are so sacred and precious that I can’t find the words to express how grateful I am to observe them.”
